This is Laurie's unique version of the traditional black bean soup, aggressively spiced and loaded with black beans, tomatoes, bell peppers and garlic. Serve with warm cornbread or tortillas and a wedge of lime. Try Laurie's favorite recipe, Mesa Style Chile.
Directions:
WHISK SOUP MIX INTO SIX CUPS WATER AND BRING TO A BOIL,
STIRRING OFTEN. REDUCE HEAT AND SIMMER UNCOVERD 20 MINUTES,
STIRRING OFTEN.
For Variety:
ADD COOKED SMOKED OR ITALIAN SAUSAGE, HAM OR CHICKEN.

Ingredients:
Dehydrated black beans, onions, bell peppers,
garlic, tomatoes and celery, enriched wheat flour (malted barley
flour, niacin, iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), black
bean powder, salt, sugar, silicon dioxide, spices, maltodextrin,
rendered chicken fat, disodium inosinate and disodium guanylate,
hydrolyzed corn soy wheat gluten protein, onion powder,
turmeric, natural flavor.
Laurie's Favorite Recipe-MESA STYLE CHILI
1-5.7 oz. PACKAGE LAURIE'S KITCHEN MESA BLACK BEAN SOUP
6-CUPS WATER
1-14.5 oz. CAN DICED TOMATOES, DRAINED
1-15 oz. CAN KIDNEY BEANS
1-lb. GROUND BEEF, PORK, OR TURKEY
1 TBSP. CHILI POWDER
Directions:
IN A 4-QUART SAUCE PAN, BROWN GROUND BEEF AND DRAIN. RETURN TO
PAN AND ADD THE WATER. WHISK IN THE SOUP MIX AND REMAINING
INGREDIENTS. BRING TO A BOIL AND REDUCE HEAT. SIMMER 20 MINUTES
STIRRING OFTEN.
