This is a rich, old fashioned hearty onion soup.
Directions:
In a saucepan, whisk together contents of pouch, 2/3 cup of cold water and 2 ½ cups of boiling water. Return to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 20 minutes.
Serving Suggestions:
Once soup is prepared, preheat the broiler. Arrange 4 slices of French bread on a baking sheet in a single layer. Brush with softened butter. Sprinkle each slice with 1 tbsp grated Gruyere cheese and broil until bubbly and golden (approximately 2-4 minutes). Ladle equal amounts of soup into 2 oven-proof soup bowls and top with the Gruyere cheese croutons. Sprinkle additional grated Gruyere cheese on top of soup and croutons and place under broiler again for 1-2 minutes. Enjoy!
